Basket Moon
Published in Hardcover by Little Brown & Co (Juv Trd) (September, 1999)
Authors: Mary Lyn Ray and Barbara Cooney
Average review score:

The end of the collection
This beautiful book was the last one Barbara Cooney illustrated before her death in March of 2000. The story and pictures are great. A must-have for Cooney fans.

A gentle, entertaining story for young readers.
A young boy growing up admires his father's basket-making skills and anticipates the time when he'll be allowed to go to town to help sell them - but when the time arises, he's taunted for being a country boy. Should he be a basket maker? Barbara Cooney's illustrations enhance this gentle story.

The Battered Child
Published in Paperback by University of Chicago Press (September, 1988)
Authors: Ray Halfer, Ruth Kempe, and Ray E. Helfer
Average review score:

Very Informative
"The Battered Child" presents a clear, strong overview of child abuse: its origins, its legal history, its effects on society and its impact on the child. I would definately recommend it to anyone wanting to learn about the dynamics of abuse!

YOU MUST HAVE THIS ONE!
Excellent textbook! Should be in every school, therapist office, hospital, clinic and child protection agency library. If I could only buy one, this would be it! This is an excellent companion book to Body Language of the abused child! Buy them both- you will not regret it!

The Bedford Glossary of Critical and Literary Terms
Published in Paperback by St. Martin's Press (January, 2003)
Authors: Ross C. Murfin and Supryia M. Ray
Average review score:

Offers far more depth than its title suggests
Yes, this is an excellent glossary of terms. It is also much more. Within these 420 pages, the authors have taken time and space to explore in depth the significance of varied approaches to literary analysis and scholarship.

The confusing and politicized nature of 20th Century literary criticism is served well in Murphin & Ray's clear and even-handed explication of various schools and styles. I think that new initiates to literary studies will appreciate the lengthy analyses given to critical schools/styles ( from aestheticism and close reading... to new historicism and 'theory' ). I find that this humbly titled "glossary" offers clearer and fairer insights into of these stormy academic seas that most books claiming "Intro to Criticism" in their titles.

This is a great reference volume for literature students. My only disappointment was the lack of references, and of suggestions for reading in more depth (other than in-passing mention of authors' names and occasional book titles), but that of course would have taken this volume further beyond the class of mere "glossary".

Still, in summary: indispensable - unsurpassed!

comprehensive and lucid
This glossary is one of the best I have seen, combining both exhaustive and detailed enteries as well as a wide range of coverage. Literary periods from Old English to the Postmodern are discussed in detail - the article on postmodernism is almost six pages. Critical approaches such as structralism and postcolonialism are lucidly presented. Literary trends and tropes are explained with illustrative examples. Crossrefrencing is particularly very useful. All this makes this glossary a good study aid for both literary students and scholars.

The Best of Car Talk: With Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers (National Public Radio'S/Cassette)
Published in Audio Cassette by Soundelux Audio Pub (September, 1995)
Authors: Tom Magliozzi, Soundelux, and Ray Magliozzi
Average review score:

Whatever you call 'em, ya gotta love 'em!
Tom and Ray Magliozzi (aka Click and Clack) are classic examples of the fact that NPR and talk radio can't always be easily categorized. While most NPR stations spend the majority of their time playing classical music, every Saturday morning Bach gets pushed to the side for a heavy of Click and Clack. And while most talk radio hosts seem to take themselves way too seriously, Tom and Ray never let anyone (including themselves) get away with anything. If you or someone you know has never heard "Car Talk", get ahold of these tapes. You'll be laughing before you know it!

One of the best things you can shove into your tape player
If you are new to Car Talk, this tape is a neccessity. Even if you have been listening for years, you may not have heard some of these calls. And if you never have listened to Car Talk, shame on you! The funniest thing on radio is also the funniest thing on tape, and I have found that when Tom and Ray are on my stereo, I can not be in a bad mood. The price is worth the reduction in therapy bills alone!

Bionutrition:: The Amazing Health Benefits of Vitamin Supplements
Published in Paperback by Comprehensive Wellness Pub (September, 1998)
Author: Ray D., M.D. Strand
Average review score:

If care about your health, this is a must read!
Dr. Ray Strand is an MD with a family practice, who preached that nutritional supplementaltion did nothing more than create expensive urine for his first 23 years in practice. But when his wife became seriously ill, and the combined knowledge of many specialists did nothing to help her, he very skeptically let his wife try a premium grade nutritional system. Her amazing recovery led Dr. Strand to research nutrition exhaustively in an attempt to understand what had happened. His study led him to become an ardent believer in nutritional supplementation, and he goes into detail as why current scientific research proves this to be true.

Most incredible source of facts to protect your family
A must read! The summary of clinical reports that Dr. Strand presents will help give you the wake up call! Dr. Strand doesn't hold any punches and spells out exactly what we can do to protect ourselves from degenerative diseases. It has been a great help in educating others on the medical evidence that supports the absolute requirement for proper nutrition. It has been a great tool to expand our referal based nutrition business.

Blood Thirst: 100 Years of Vampire Fiction
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (October, 1997)
Authors: Leonard Wolf, Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, and Richard Matheson
Average review score:

A must for horror/vampire fans
This novel brings together works of so many amazing talented writers: Stephen King, Richard Matheson, Anne Rice, Tanith Lee, Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, Algernon Blackwood, Joyce Carol Oates...just to name a few! Be on the lookout for "Count Dracula" by Woody Allen; whether you love him or hate him, this short story is a hoot!

This one lets you sink your teeth into some quick, sometimes chilling, sometimes humorous, sometimes just plain weird vampire stories. It will also introduce you to some incredible authors, and I bet you'll race to buy more of their works. Wolf breaks down this collection into categories: The Classic Adventure Tale; The Psychological Vampire; The Science Fiction Vampire; The Non-Human Vampire; The Comic Vampire; and The Heroic Vampire. Horror and vampire fans will recognize some of these stories (King's is an excerpt of SALEM'S LOT) from other novels or collections. But this one is a tasty treat (yes, all puns intended) that I found delightful!

Excellent Collection of Stories
I great collection of modern vampire stories. Several of the stories are actually chapters from longer novels, which only entices the reader to read those novels too. Wonderful read, but with the lights on!

C++ in a Nutshell
Published in Paperback by O'Reilly & Associates (01 April, 2003)
Author: Ray Lischner
Average review score:

An excellent Nutshell. C++? A+!
I bought this to replace another C/C++ reference book. The other book was abysmal, with poor organisation, lacks of detail, depth and clarity. The Nutshell is a refreshing delight. It covers everything about C++, from the ground up. It's not a tutorial, but anyone familiar with C should be able to grasp C++ from this reference. Very detailed, even including a BNF grammar of the language. Excellent.

Very useful
This is an excellent reference designed to give you precise definitions and usage for the C++ language features and library according to the C++ Standard. Unless you are a novice, it will save you time. In the past, when I needed to lookup something, I used to gladly dive into the Stroustrup's "C++ Programming Language" or Josuttis's "The C++ Standard Library". While indispensable and authoritative, these volumes are *NOT* designed for easy reference work; reading them takes time, and what should have been a 30-second lookup inevitably turned into a 30-minute reading. The "C++ In A Nutshell" helps to solve this problem, in addition to putting all the relevant resources at your fingertips in one volume.

These books are good for finding the lights that are in them

One of the best lighthouse refernce books out there
I am a lighthouse lover and this book is the best refence book for lighthouses of California. It leaves very little out and is quick and easy to read. Perfect for the coffe table or bedside table. I recommend this whole line of lighthouse books to everyone.
